quote
★★★★
🇺🇸 /kwˈoʊt/
🇬🇧 [kʰwəwt]
intj
-
common 开始引用📖 说话人用 quote 提醒听者:下面的话是某人的原话,而不是自己的普通陈述。💡 常见模式是先说 quote,再说被引用的内容;也可以在句末用 unquote 表示引用结束。它带有口语提示色彩,正式写作通常直接使用引号或引用结构。不要把这里的 quote 误解成“报价”。He said, quote, "I will never give up," unquote.他说:“我永远不会放弃。”
noun
-
core 引语;引用的话📖 quote 是从某人说过或写过的话中原样取出的句子或一段话,重点是保留原来的措辞。💡 常见模式是 a quote from someone 或 quote someone;谈网上或书中的名言时也常用 quotes。它通常指一段可独立引用的原话,不只是对内容的大意概括。不要把 quote 和 summary 混用,后者不要求保留原句。She shared a quote from her favorite author.她分享了自己最喜欢的作家说过的一句引语。
-
common 引号📖 quote 也可以指把原话括起来的引号这一类标点,强调的是标记原话的符号,而不是原话本身。💡 常见模式是 in quotes 或 quotation marks;单数 quote 可指一边引号,复数 quotes 可泛指一对或多组引号。正式说明标点时,quotation mark 通常比 quote 更明确。不要把“引号”和“引语”这两个意思混为一谈。Put the title in quotes.把标题放在引号里。
-
common 工作报价📖 quote 可以指服务方根据要做的工作列出的预计费用,通常是客户在决定是否接受服务前看到的金额说明。💡 常见模式是 get、ask for 或 receive a quote;也常和 for 加服务项目连用。这里的 quote 通常是对项目总费用的报价,不一定已经构成最终账单。中文学习者不要把它只理解为“价格”这一抽象概念,它往往是一份具体的报价。We asked three builders for a quote.我们向三家建筑公司索要了报价。
-
common 市场报价📖 在金融或商品交易中,quote 指卖方为某种证券或商品报出的当前价格。💡 常见模式是 a price quote 或 the latest quote;金融报道中也常和 market、stock、currency 等词连用。这个意思比普通服务报价更专业,具体价格可能随市场变化。不要把它和已经完成交易的 sale price 自动等同起来。The latest quote for the shares was lower than yesterday's.这只股票的最新报价低于昨天的报价。

core 引用原话📖 quote 作动词时,表示把某人的准确措辞复述出来,让听者知道这些话确实出自那个人。💡 常见模式是 quote someone 或 quote something from someone;被引用的内容可直接放在宾语位置。它强调原话的准确性,若只转述大意,通常不用 quote。不要在 quote 后机械加介词 to 来表示“引用某人”,应直接说 quote someone。transitiveThe article quoted the minister's exact words.这篇文章引用了部长的原话。She quoted a line from the poem.她引用了这首诗中的一句话。
-
core 给出工作报价📖 quote 作动词时可以表示根据工作内容估算并报出费用,也就是告诉客户这项服务大概要花多少钱。💡 常见模式是 quote someone a price 或 quote someone for a job;金额可直接放在宾语后面。它通常表示服务方先报出预计费用,不一定表示已经收费。不要把这种用法误解为“向某人引用一句话”,因为金额和工作项目会明确显示其商业含义。transitiveThe mechanic quoted me $300 for the repair.修理工报给我三百美元的维修费用。Can you quote us for painting the whole house?你能给我们报一下整栋房子的刷漆费用吗?
-
common 报出市场价格📖 在商业或金融语境中,quote 表示报出证券、货币或商品当前可参考的价格。💡 常见模式是 quote a price for something,或用被报价的证券作宾语。这个用法常见于市场报道和交易场景,语气比日常购物更专业。不要把它和 quote someone a price 混淆:前者强调市场价格,后者也可以只是给客户做服务报价。transitiveThe exchange quoted the dollar at 1.08 euros.交易所报出的美元汇率是每美元兑一欧元零八。
-
common 提示开始引用📖 quote 也能不及物地用作口头提示,表示接下来要原样说出某人的话,和名词“引语”来自同一个核心概念。💡 常见模式是先单独说 quote,再接引用内容,结束时可说 unquote。它主要用于口语转述、讽刺或戏仿,正式文章中通常不用这种独立提示语。不要把这里的用法和及物动词 quote someone 混为一谈。intransitiveQuote, "This is the best day of my life," unquote.引用一下:“这是我一生中最好的一天。”
-
rare 留意;顾及📖 这是古旧用法,表示像给某事做标记一样加以留意或顾及;现代英语中几乎不用。💡 只会在古典文本或仿古语言中遇到,不能用来替代现代英语中的 notice、consider 或 take account of。学习时把它识别出来即可,不必主动使用。若在现代文章中看到它,先检查是否是引用古文或特殊文体。archaic

Latin quot
Latin quotus
Medieval Latin quotāreder.
Old French coterbor.
Middle English quoten
English quote
From Middle English quoten, coten (“to mark (a book) with chapter numbers or marginal references”), from Old French coter, from Medieval Latin quotāre (“to distinguish by numbers, number chapters”), itself from Latin quotus (“which, what number (in sequence)”), from quot (“how many”) and related to quis (“who”). The sense developed via “to give as a reference, to cite as an authority” to “to copy out exact words” (since 1680); the business sense “to state the price of a commodity” (1866) revives the etymological meaning. The noun, in the sense of “quotation,” is attested from 1885; see also usage note, below.
